I avoided Shadowâs gaze as I sauntered into the dining room. Ramsay and Bronte eyed me cautiously as I took the farthest seat away from all three of them. They must have known something happened between me and Shadow. Hell, they were probably listening at the door.
Lady George hummed around the table as usual. âGood morning, Tallulah! I trust that you slept well?â
I forced a smile. âYes, it was the waking up that was a bit rough.â
Ramsay and Bronte both stifled a laugh.
âSomething funny?â I asked. Heat rushed to my cheeks as I stabbed my fork into a heaping plate of pancakes.
âYour naivety amuses us, Princess,â Shadow grumbled. âYou forget whoâs house you are in.â
I looked down at my plate, humiliated. âI should be getting back to the palace, Lady. Can you please see that my horse is ready by mid-afternoon?â
Lady George pursed her lips. She looked hesitantly between the three lords. âOf course, Princess. Iâll see to it at once.â
Shadow dropped his fork. It clanked on the table. âStop. You will do no such thing. The princess stays here.â
I jerked my head toward him, fuming. âDonât speak about me as if Iâm not in the room. I will leave when I want to.â
Lady George murmured something under her breath and scurried out of the room.
âTulip, my sweet, itâs for your own good,â Bronte cooed. âWe know you donât really want to leave.â
âYouâre just pissed that Shadow beat you at your own game,â Ramsay added.
âAnd we arenât done playing,â Shadow snapped.
This was insane. âWhat in the hell do you want from me?â
Lady George sauntered back in with a tray of eggs and bacon. âAlright, eat up everyone. Youâre going to need your strength for today.â
The three lords looked at me, their expressions blank. Unreadable.
âWhat in the world are you talking about, Lady?â I asked. Did she have any idea what these sick beautiful Fae men were doing to me? She couldnât be as oblivious as she seemed.
Lady George smoothed her flour coated hands down her apron. âWell, itâs our annual garden games, of course. Usually itâs just the lords. Iâm too old for games. But now they have you to play with.â
I nearly choked on a bite of eggs. Ramsay snorted while Bronte laughed inside his napkin. She had no idea how true her words rang.
âLucky me,â I muttered. âWhat are we playing?â
Shadow leaned back in his chair, looking sexier than I wanted to admit. âYouâll see.â
There was something wrong with me. Instead of being disgusted, I was turned on. But I wouldnât let them see.
I shoved away from the table and stood. âAll three of you⦠are fucking toxic.â
Lady George was putting on her usual façade of pretending she didnât know what was going on between us. She placed a bowl of cherries in my hands. âWinter cherries. They are the sweetest this time of year.â
Ramsay cupped my elbow in his hand. âShall we?â
I cursed under my breath before following them to the garden.
